Notes on running

14 days ago: I have been playing football regularly but I’m pretty shit. A friend kindly offered to start from the basics with me and we did a bunch of passing drills… 40 minutes of passing drills, using only my right leg. Then we played a 50 minute game, and then we drank juice and went home. No cool down. #

12 days ago: I woke up bright and early and had movement coiled up in my body. In about 5 minutes after waking I had shoes on, and I was off. I thought I’d take it casually. No looking at the time/pace/distance - just 140bpm runs. Guys. I did a 5k and I didn’t even realise it. It was my first time running such a long distance! I also did a PR for my kilometer time. I was so incredibly excited. I did a decent warm up and a nice long cool down. #

12 days ago: The bloating… The burps. I was so uncomfortable. Apparently this is a normal thing that happens with runners? A friend has a collection of photoes of runners who have shit themselves. But this was unexpected, and I was annoyed. Why was my body trying to sabotage me? Little did I know… #

10 days ago: I woke up bright and early and had movement coiled up in my body. In about 5 minutes after waking I had shoes on, and I was off. I stood in front of a house to do my stretches before I ran. I did one squat, and heard a snap from my thigh, and felt a sharp pain! I strained my right adductor. A combination of lots of movement, lack of sleep, an incline, and a squat too deep will do that. Who knew? #

Needless to say, I didn’t play either of the two football games I had scheduled for that weekend. I didn’t drive anywhere because the motion of it would stress the muscle. I couldn’t sit bisexually. Do you know all the things you use your adductor for? I have slowly, and painfully, spent the last week finding out. #

Today morning: I ran again. I have travel coming up and I wanted to be sure I would be okay. I did a simple 1k, and walked another 1k. Long and shallow static stretches after. I’ve kept up my creatine-and-protien-shake routine to help with recovery. I’m a little sore as I write this but Inshallah I will be able to run by a lake and climb a mountain and play in snow without injuring myself further on my trip. #
